Meet Our Trumpet Instructor
Michael Shannon Brown Jr. is a trumpet performer and educator in the Kalamazoo area. He recently graduated from Kennesaw State University with his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance, where he studied with Dr. Douglas Lindsey and Mr. Michael Tiscione. As a performer, Mr. Brown has performed solo and chamber recital throughout the state of Georgia. As a soloist, Mr. Brown has been featured with the Jones County Symphonic Band and has performed as the cornet soloist in Sergei Prokofiev’s “Lieutenant Kije Suite” with the Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra Concert at the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference.
As an educator, Mr. Brown has taught private lessons throughout the Metro-Atlanta area to students ranging from elementary to the collegiate level. His students have recently been selected to participate in numerous Georgia District Honor Bands and others have earned positions in collegiate studios at the University of Georgia and Kennesaw State University. Mr. Brown passion for chamber music has led him to instruct the brass and chamber Music program at North Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia. During his tenure at North Paulding, Mr. Brown directed four brass quintets. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Brown was the brass and chamber music instructor at Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia.
Mr. Brown is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from Western Michigan University under the tutelage of Dr. Robert White, where he was awarded the Graduate Brass Quintet Assistantship. When Mr. Brown is not practicing, performing, or teaching the trumpet, he enjoys relaxing at home with his wonderful bulldog Jager.
